Hey guys, so this is officially the very first entry I am making into my snazzy new blog. I plan to share and document my adventures as I explore and learn the ever-evolving intricacies of the cybersecurity craft. I am hoping that this information will be of some use to whoever stumbles upon it.
Anyway, while I was building this blog site, I looked at the word “cybersecurity” and thought to myself, “The spelling of this word does not look correct?” even though I knew it was the correct spelling my doubts got the better of me. Naturally, like anyone does these days, I did a quick Google search and found that I was not the only one that was slightly confused.
So… Cybersecurity or Cyber Security, is it one or two words?
After consulting the all-knowing Google, a summary of the results suggests that American style writers favour cybersecurity as a single word, while British style writers prefer splitting the word into two words. In some circles, it’s even argued that the word should be hyphenated, however, this style of writing the word seems to not be widely used.
Right, to the conclusion, it seems that regardless of writers preferred spelling of word cybersecurity, the meaning of it is unchanged, and currently all variants are accepted in the cybersecurity world. Only time will tell which variant becomes more acceptable.
While we wait this one out, I have chosen to continue using cybersecurity as one word on this blog for the sake of consistency.
Let me know your thoughts, one or two words?
